Gangotri, situated in the district of Uttarkashi, is one of the four destinations of the Hindu pilgrimage circuit in Uttarakhand. It lies on the banks of the River Bhagirathi at a height of 3100 m above sea level. The topography of Gangotri is characteristic of rugged terrains, snow-capped mountains and the River Bhagirathi, which combine to form a truly breathtaking view.
The town is an ideal holiday spot for people who want enjoy a brief and quiet time in the arms of mountains along with offering prayers to the Almighty.
Gangotri has great significance in Hindu mythology as it is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva was seated when he received the Ganga in his locks. The town is frequented by several devotees, who are willing to pay homage to Goddess Ganga, one of the holiest and revered deities of Hindus. The place is home to a natural Shivling as well that is visible only during winters.
People often come here to visit the Gaumukh glacier, which is the source of the Bhagirathi River. This site is extremely popular among adventure lovers as it offers a great trekking experience amidst scenic surroundings.

Tour Plan ( Itinerary )
Dedicated to Goddess Ganga, Gangotri is one of the prominent Hindu shrines in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Nestled at an altitude of 3,048 m, Gangotri Temple was built by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century. Gangotri is one of the Char Dham Yatra destinations, which devotees visit in great numbers. You can book Gangotri tour packages and embark on a holy sojourn to this sacred shrine with us. The shrine remains closed due to heavy snowfall during the winter months (from November to March). However, the idols are shifted to Mukhba and Kharsail in the Uttarkashi district from Gangotri Temple. But from April again, they are transferred back to their original place for the rest of the year. The initiative is taken by the Uttarakhand Government so that you can worship the deities all year long. Day 1 Rishikesh - To - Haridwar - to Uttarkashi (170 km/6-7 hrs approx).
After breakfast, proceed to Uttarkashi. On arrival check-in at hotel. Evening visit to Vishwanath Temple, Ekadash Rudra, Bhairav, Gyaneshwar and Goddess Kuteti Devi etc. Overnight stay at hotel in Uttarkashi.
Distance:- 170 km
Time:- 6-7 hrs
Day 2 Gangotri Jee Excursion (100 km/3 hrs approx one side).
Day 3 Uttarkashi to Rishikesh (160 km/5-6 hrs approx).
